At 01:34 hours while the Engine Company was en route to a medical, Stafford Communications dispatched an auto-accident with entrapment in the area of Leeland Road and Rice Road. Engine 1(Rice) was diverted to the accident and arrived just after dispatch with one vehicle on its side, over the embankment, into a tree with one trapped. Chief 1 arrived next taking "Leeland Road Command." Engine 2(Castle), Rescue 1(Rolle), and Rescue 5(Dyke) all arrived within a thirty second window and began setting up for a controlled lower of the vehicle back to all four wheels. This was done by utilizing the winch from Rescue 1 with a change of direction at Rescue 5 then to the under carriage of the vehicle. Engine 2 utilized the grip hoist from a tree and by wrapping the B and C posts to create an opposing tension. The vehicle was then lowered back down to all four wheels and crews performed a total door/ roof removal. The patient was then removed and turned over to awaiting EMS personnel. The operation took 40 minutes to complete but units were on the scene for approximately one and a half hours.
