December 30, 2009
At 00:46 hours the Rescue and Chief were special requested by King George Medic 9 for an auto accident with entrapment in the area of Kings Highway and Port Conway Road. King George Engine 11 arrived first and reported heavy entrapment due to the dash pinning the patient inside the vehicle. Medic 9 arrived and established command. Chief 1 then arrived to find one vehicle head on into a tree with one pinned. The Rescue Company arrived on scene minutes after Chief 1, verified stabilization and began working to extricate the subject. The drivers door was removed fully to visualize the patients lower extremities. Rescue 1's crew then made a relief cut on the A post and below the dash to perform a high-dash lift. Once the relief cuts were completed Rescue 1's officer used an Amkus spreader inside the vehicle and lifted the dash which freed the patient. The victim was quickly removed and flown to a trauma center. Falmouth units operated on scene for approximately 30 minutes before returning to service.
