At 15:42 hours the Falmouth Volunteers were alerted for a residential fire at 35 Powhatan Trail bringing the Engine and Rescue with a total of 10 volunteers. Engine 2 was on a motor vehicle accident on I-95 and advised responding units that there was a large column of smoke in the area of the box alarm. Medic 4 was first to arrive to find a single story wood frame structure with smoke showing on the "Alpha" side. While Medic 4 and Chief 4 were completing a walk around they then advised that there was a heavy volume of fire on side "Charlie". Chief 4 then established the "Powhatan Trail Command". The Operations Deputy arrived just behind Chief 4 and assumed the command. Rescue 1 arrived as the first arriving suppression piece and began a primary search. Engine 14 arrived to advance the first 1.75" attackline through the front. During the primary Rescue 1 members located a dog and removed it to the outside of the residence. The other searches proved negative. Medic 4 advanced the secondary 1.75" line to the front door. Engine 1 arrived on scene behind Engine 9 and took the third due engine duties. Engine 1 extinguished the deck that was on fire on side "Charlie". Engine 2 cleared the M.V.A. and took the fourth due R.I.T responsibilities. After the bulk of the fire was knocked down Rescue 1's crew went to the roof and opened up attic space to extinguish the hidden fire. After Rescue 1 finished extinguishing the hidden attic fire crews from Truck 2 and The Rescue completed overhaul duties. Company 1 units operated on scene for approximately three hours before returning to service.
