| At 00:46 hours Rescue 1 was alerted for an auto accident reported overturned with possible entrapment in the area of the 138 mile marker North bound on Interstate 95. The Operations Deputy and Engine 2 were first to arrive to find one vehicle on its roof with two trapped. The Operations Deputy established the "Interstate 95 Command" while Engine 2 deployed a protection hand line and began basic stabilization. Rescue 1 then arrived and completed stabilization efforts by placing two Partech struts to the rear of the vehicle. The crew from Rescue 1 then split up into two groups to remove the driver and passenger side doors. Once the passenger side door was removed the passenger side crew began assisting with extrication on the driver side. Once the driver side door was removed the crews still had limited access to the patient. Rescue 1 then completed a third door removal to gain better access. After the third door removal was complete crews noticed the occupant was pinned by the seat and roof and then utilized Amkus spreaders to displace the seat off the pinned occupant which completed the extrication. Engine 2 then assisted Medic 2 to package one occupant for transport. Rescue 1 and Engine 2 remained on scene providing scene lighting for approximately 4 hours before returning to service. All units on scene operated exceptionally well together to complete the difficult extrication. |
