Rescue Squad #1 was alerted for a swift water rescue in the area of Riverside drive and the “Jumping Rock "area of the Rappahannock River. Rescue 1 was first to arrive to find an adult male that was stranded on a rock wall in the middle of the river. Due to the heavy rain from prior days the river had begun to quickly rise and create extremely fast moving currents. The adult was exhausted from being swept downstream in the current and was unable to make it back to shore. The City of Fredericksburg Fire department positioned to be downstream safeties. Rescue 1 quickly deployed two rescue swimmers in the river to make contact with the victim. Once the swimmers made contact with the subject a personal floatation device was placed on the victim. The Rescuers then removed the victim to safety on shore.
