By Falmouth Volunteers
June 6, 2007

One minute after midnight Stafford E.C.C. received a call from the homeowner across the street from 1190 Ramoth Church Road advising there was fire coming from a window at the Virginia Paving Company. The box alarm was struck for a commercial building fire bringing Engine and Rescue 1 with 10 men. District 1(Ennis) arived shortly after with fire showing from side Adam and established the "Ramoth Church Road Command". Engine 4 (Mt. View) laid a 4" supply line from the hydrant at Centerport Parkway and took position in the front. The crew from Engine 4 then deployed their attackline to begin extinguishment efforts. Engine and Rescue 1 arrived seconds later with Engine 1 completing the water supply and stretching two back-up lines. Command ordered the crew from Rescue 1 to conduct a primary search which proved negative. After the searches were completed command gave the order to evacuate the building and set up ladder pipe operations utilizing Tower 4 (Mt. View). Command then requested the 2nd Alarm due to building size and understaffed units which added Wagon 1 to the run. Tower 4 knocked down the bulk of the fire using the ladder pipe in approximately 10 minutes before units were allowed back in the building to mop up with handlines. The Rescue Company's Captain (Tobey) was given Division Delta with his crew, Engine 1, Wagon 2, Wagon 5, and Medic 5 under his supervision. Chief 2 (MacDonald) established the Adam Division with various companies operating under his command. The two divisions worked well together and made quick work opening up and extinguishing the remaining hotspots . The 3rd Alarm was struck due to the weather conditions allowing crews to rotate in rehab. The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes but crews remained on scene for several hours completing the extensive overhaul. The units from Falmouth took up around 04:00 hours.
