At 01:01 hours units from Mt. View, Rockhill, North Stafford, and Falmouth were dispatched to Dunbar Drive in Rockhill for an auto accident reported as overturned with a subject trapped. Medic 8 arrived on scene first and confirmed a work van was overturned on it's side with one patient trapped in the vehicle. Engine 4 with the Chief arrived and began size up on extrication efforts. Chief 4 (Doyle) took the "Dunbar Drive Command" and requested a medivac. Rescue 10 arrived next but due to being understaffed Rescue 1 was continued to the scene. The patient was trapped by large cylinders and tools that had to be removed before the extrication could be performed. Engine 2 was diverted to establish an landing site near Dunbar Drive and Tackett's Mill Road. Engine 4, Rescue 10, and Rescue 1 stabilized the vehicle, worked to remove the contents off of the patient while cutting away the roof of the cab to gain access to the patient. Once the roof removal was completed and contents removed, the crews removed the seat and gained access to the patient. The patient was packaged by both Medic units and transported to the LZ by Medic 8. All crews worked well together on this complex cut and returned to service in about an hour.
