At 23:45 Stafford E.C.C. alerted Falmouth for a possible commercial fire at 226 Cambridge Street in downtown Falmouth. The caller reported black smoke coming from the structure. Engine, Rescue, Chief, and Assistant Chief 1 responded bringing 9 volunteers. Minutes later Chief 1 (Smith) arrived on scene to find a single story commercial with smoke showing from side Alpha and established the "Cambridge Street Command". Engine 1 dropped the "Detroit" load at the front and laid to the hydrant 300 feet away. While the engine company was getting a line on the ground, the rescue company forced entry through the front door and completed the primary and secondary searches with negative results. The fire in the bathroom was extinguished and crews then began checking for extension. Quint 12 was the next to arrive and command held Falmouth units and Quint 12. Company 1 units returned to service in 45 minutes.
